When you visit us, our dental care specialist will discuss your tooth condition with you. We try our best to save your tooth but in some cases, extraction is the only option left.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

A wisdom tooth extraction is a common dental procedure. Most people need wisdom tooth extraction once in their life as it is rare for a person to have enough space for all of their wisdom teeth. As your wisdom teeth come in, you may notice your teeth shifting or experience pain. To make more room and reduce the chance of infection, we can remove any impacted teeth.

Tooth Extraction Aftercare

For about 72 hours after tooth extraction, it is advised that you do not rinse vigorously, suck on straws, smoke, drink alcohol or brush your teeth next to the extraction site. These activities may hinder the healing process. It is also advised that you limit vigorous exercise for the next 24 hours, as this increases blood pressure and may cause more bleeding from the extraction site.

An ice pack can be applied to the area to keep swelling to a minimum. The dentist will also prescribe you pain medication to take care of the pain after the extraction. You are always welcome to call our office if you need to discuss anything or need any assistance.

It is important that you resume your normal dental routine after 24 hours. This includes brushing and flossing your teeth at least once a day. This will speed up the healing process and will help keep your mouth fresh and clean. It will take a few days before you can resume your normal activities. If you experience any heavy bleeding, severe pain, continued swelling for 2-3 days, or a reaction to the medication, call our office immediately.
